Week 4

This week was another successful week in PE here at CHPCS! Students are getting active each and every day and I can already see their endurance increasing! They are participating longer, more efficiently, and with much more effort. I have included some great discussion questions and activities under your child's grade level below. Please enjoy the pictures and have some great discussions this weekend!

K-2

This week we introduced levels! The students learned many animal movements that forced them to move in many different levels (high, medium, and low). Now that they are beginning to understand spacial awareness in a variety of situations, we are going to move to body awareness! Below is a list of questions and activities you can do with your children this weekend!

  • Ask them the difference between a dog crawl and a bear crawl.

  • Have them show you a three-legged dog crawl.

  • Ask them the difference between a locomotor movement and non-locomotor movement.

3-4

This week we started our flying disc unit. This unit is a great unit to start off because everyone is usually at the same level. We will be learning the backhand throw, forehand throw, three different ways to catch, many modified games, and end with Ultimate Frisbee! This is a great lifelong skill to have that can be used anytime and any place! Feel free to do some of the activities below.

  • Ask your child(ren) what the original name of the Frisbee was.

  • Let your child(ren) show you their best throws and catches.

  • Ask them where the name "Frisbee" came from.

5-8

Congratulations to all the students who received the National Award for the Presidents Fitness Challenge! Go Falcons! We will be taking the Presidents Fitness Challenge three more times this year. Each student created a S.M.A.R.T. Goal this week from their Presidents Fitness Challenge results.

This week the middle school classes also started on the Flying Disc unit. We are working on a variety of catches and throws and will build up to Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf. They had some great keep away games this week! Their catching and throwing skills are getting better and better each day! Try one of the activities below this weekend!

  • Ask your child(ren) what their Presidents Fitness Challenge goal is.

  • Let them show you their catching and throwing skills.

  • Try to see if they can catch a flying disc three different ways.

Have a great weekend Falcons!

Keep moving!!!!!!!!
