October!

Hello Falcon Families,

Wow, it has been a while since I have been able to post something on the blog! I apologize for not having this up and running sooner. Thank you for all of your support and understanding.

Here is what has been going on in PE in the month of October:

K-2nd

We have been working on perceptual power and doing a great job. The students have been learning the difference between locomotor and non-locomotor movements while executing a variety of each movement. They have also been learning different levels and pathways. They enjoy doing a variety of exercises and animal walks/crawls in low, medium, and high levels while traveling in a variety of pathways. They really enjoyed playing scooter tag this week to show their understanding of pathways.

Some things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this weekend are:

1. What is the difference between a locomotor and non-locomotor movement? Can you show me one
    of each?

2. Have your child(ren) show you their favorite animal crawl in each level (low, medium, high).

3rd-4th

This month we ended our flying disc unit with a great game of disc golf! The students were able to play on a 6 hole course created by Mr. Weaver. We have some great disc golfers who really enjoyed the game. This is great lifetime activity that you can do with your family and friends.

We also started our volleyball unit. The students are learning how to bump, set, and do an underhand serve. We introduced the skills this week, and we will continue to work on them next week in a variety of games. The students really enjoy the "blind volleyball" net we have!

Some things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this weekend are:

1. Find a disc golf course and play a couple holes.

2. Have them show you the volleyball bump and set. See how many you can do in a row with them.

5th-8th

We ended our flying disc unit a couple weeks ago. The students never seem very enthusiastic at the start of the flying disc unit, but never want it to end when it is over. We ended the unit this year with an ultimate frisbee tournament. The students really enjoy ultimate frisbee and I always have a great time playing with them. It is a great team sport that really works on teamwork and sportsmanship!

We started our volleyball unit two weeks ago. The students learn the bump, set, and underhand serve and rules to the game of volleyball. We practiced the skills the first week, and have been playing our volleyball tournament this last week. We have had some really exciting games and I know they are all excited to play again next week.

Some things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this weekend are:

1. Play a game of ultimate frisbee with family and friends.

2. Go watch a volleyball game and see if you understand the game.

3. Set and  bump a volleyball with your family and friends.

K-8th

Along with the units mentioned above, each class has been learning a dance! This dance will be performed at the Sock-Hop on November 6th! The students are doing a great job with their dances and are encouraged to teach the dance to their parents. Each class will perform their dance on the stage. Parents and teachers are encouraged to watch all the dances because they are in charge of voting for the best dance. I will be sending out an e-mail after the sock-hop asking for votes. The winning class will get a free day in PE! This will be the 6th annual Cascade Heights Sock-Hop Dance Competition! You do not want to miss it!

Have a great weekend and remember to KEEP MOVING!
