Week 22

This week was the last week of our fitness unit. All the grades learned new exercises, the importance of fitness, and why it is important to know how to keep your body healthy over the years.  We all want to live a long, healthy, quality life, and educating our children is the first step to making this happen!

K-2

This week we talked about the importance of living a healthy life. We talked about why PE is so important, and that it is not just "glorified recess". The students continued leaning upper body, lower body, and full body exercises. We played some fun games to work on a very important muscle in our body, the brain!

Some things you can do/ask your child(ren) to do this weekend:

  • Explain the "rain game".

  • Have them show you an upper body, lower boy, and full body exercise.

  • Is exercising the only thing you need to do to stay healthy?

3-4

We finished our fitness unit this week. The students had to perform a number of the exercises they learned in many different activities including "mingle-mingle". We talked about the importance of PE and why it is important to understand the how to keep your body healthy. We had some great discussions about exercising being very important to staying healthy, but it is not the only thing to do.

Some things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this weekend:

  • Demonstrate an upper, lower, and full body exercise.

  • What are some torso/abdominal exercises you can do?

  • What else can you do besides exercising to stay healthy?

 5-6

This was our last week on our fitness unit. The students have learned the importance of being healthy, why exercising is so important, the five fitness components, and how you can improve in each fitness component. They have been working hard in understanding and knowing what they can do to stay healthy after school. They will have a written test next Tuesday on our fitness unit. They will be receiving a study guide on Monday. I know homework can take up most of your evenings, but if you can find time to help them study, it know it would help them succeed!

Some things you can do/ask you child(ren) this weekend:

  • What does aerobic mean?

  • How long do you need to exercise for to improve your cardiovascular endurance?

  • Why is flexibility so important?

7-8

The 7th and 8th grade classes have been doing their dance unit. They each have been learning types of dance that were from the era they are studying in class. They will be performing their dances in the next couple weeks, so please keep an eye out for an invitation! A great way to learn a dance is to teach it. Feel free to have them teach you their dance at home so they can become masters!

Things you can do/ask your child(ren) this weekend:

  • Have them teach you their dance.

  • Listen to the song of their dance.

  • Have them show you part of their dance.

Have a great weekend and remember to keep moving!!!!!
