Week 14

We continued our Floor Hockey Unit this week. The students have really been enjoying this unit. It is something new, fun, and makes each person have a chance to succeed in an activity they do not do much at home! It is close to winter break and we all can feel it. Please help remind your students that we need to keep following the school rules and procedures to make sure we head of to break on a good note!

K-2

We moved to more challenging activities this week. We practised our hockey dribbling skills and ball control in a variety of modified games. We then moved to shooting and passing with some partners. The students really enjoyed challenging themselves in each drill we did. We finished the week with "hockey tag", which really got the students moving!

Things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this week:

  • Play hockey in the driveway.

  • Let them show you their ready stance.

  • Pass a ball back and forth with some hockey sticks.

3-4

This week we moved toward playing modified hockey games. We put our dribbling, ball control, passing, and shooting skills to the test in a variety of games. We played "sideline hockey", "hockey tag", and "4 on 4 hockey". The students were able to really show what they have been learning the past couple of weeks. We had a couple hockey injuries, bumps and bruises, but we all survived the week with smiles and a new look on hockey!

Things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this week:

  • Watch a hockey game.

  • Play a hockey game with some friends.

  • Create your own hockey stick.

5-8

We started our hockey tournament this week. The students are showing great sportsmanship and teamwork. They have been practicing their ability to sub into a game quickly without the game stopping. They have it down to a science. It is amazing to watch them all sub in for their team without any confusion, hassle, or arguments. They work together, play together, and help each other out. It always puts a smile on my face to see students working hard in a game/sport and having so much fun. I heard so many students say "great day in PE", "that was so much fun", and "thank you Mr. Weaver" while they walked out of the gym this week!

Things you can ask/do with your child(ren) this week:

  • Watch or go to a hockey game.

  • Play hockey with some friends.

  • Go ice skating at Lloyd Center.

Have a great week and remember to keep moving!!!!!
